Structural patterns of the Internet and thus of hyperlinks and hyperlink networks have become a common research object in online communication studies. Put formally, a hyperlink is first of all a technical means by which two different web pages are being connected. Yet, within hyperlink network analysis, it has often been asked for their actual meaning. In the case of online networks between websites of NGOs, it could be shown that hyperlinks are reflecting ties between actors which also exist in the offline world and thus are based on common identities.

The Internet offers internal and external communication opportunities to political organizations but also adds new costs and social pressure to use it in an appropriate way. This study examines whether and which political and organizational context factors explain the usage of online media by political organizations.

One aspect of the mediatization of politics is the idea that political actors adapt to the communication logic of news media to gain, for example, news media attention. The study compares the use of media logic in the mass media and in direct political communication channels online and offline about the United Nations Climate Change Conferences 2011 and 2012.

Das Internet etabliert sich zunehmend als Quelle politischer Informationen. Wichtigste Informationsquelle im Internet sind nachrichtenjournalistische Online-Angebote. Der Beitrag vergleicht deshalb die Inhalte von sieben besonders reichweitenstarken Online-Nachrichtenmedien (Printmedien und Fernsehnachrichtensendungen) mit den Inhalten ihrer Offline-Pendants.
